Types of Fire Suppression Sprinkler Systems

Deluge

A deluge system is unpressurized dry piping and open sprinkler heads. The system is directly connected to a water supply and when the system is activated, a deluge valve will release the water to all the open sprinkler heads. The valve is opened when activated by a heat or smoke detection system.
Foam

Foam sprinkler systems use foam to extinguish fires. The fire pump distributes water & foam mixture through piping and releases the foam spray via heads. Foam systems use a mixture of water and a low expansion foam concentrate.
Pre-Action

A dry sprinkler system which means the water is not held within the pipes, but rather held back by the pre-action valve. The valves are electrically operated and is activated by heat, smoke or flame.
Wet Systems

A wet sprinkler system is the most commonly installed system. The piping is full of water constantly. When the temperature at the ceiling gets hot enough the glass bulb or fusible link will release water from the head.
Nitrogen Systems

Nitrogen systems operate by reducing the oxygen within a room to a point at which the fire will extinguish, without compromising the safety of individuals present in the room.
